Wednesday 6 June @ 8pm
Rhonda Burchmore stars with the LA Combo
Burchmore injects humor and a fair degree of smoldering sensuousness in telling the story of one of America’s most mysterious sirens, Julie London.
From the opening version of London’s biggest hit, Cry me a River, Burchmore takes us to the West Coast jazz scene in the 1950s ad 1960s.
Julie London was not just a singer, making more than thirty albums, but also a pin-up and calendar girl, and an actress in over twenty films (1944-1961) and on television (1957-1978).
The music in the show is a series of standards from the great American Songbook, one great song after another, interspersed with snippets of Julie London’s life story.
Some of the songs performed are: Cry me a river, Let there by love, Saturday night (is the loneliest night in the week), ‘S Wonderful, you’d be so nice to come home to, Daddy, Black coffee, Hello dolly and The party’s over.
